50 Years, 50 Titans: Kevin Schuster

Heather Scibetta

Next up on our alumni Titans feature is Kevin Schuster. Kevin grew up in Rochester, NY where he attended Greece Athena High School. He swam at the local YMCA and high school teams until starting at UB in the fall of 2005. Once at UB, Kevin swam on the team while studying Medicinal Chemistry. The summer after his freshman year (2006), he joined Titans and swam with the team during his summers until graduating in 2009.

In 2019, Kevin completed his PhD in Biochemistry and is now working as a QC Scientist in pharmaceutical manufacturing in New Hampshire. In his free time, he enjoys hiking, running, and biking in the mountains around where he lives. Kevin’s wife is a Masters Swim Coach so he still gets back in the water every once in a while!

Fun Fact :

He was a sprint freestyle and butterfly specialist.

We asked Kevin the usual questions, here is what he shared with us:

Q: When did you first join Titans?

A: I joined Titans in 2006 after my freshman year at college.

Q: What is your favorite memory about being a Titan?

A: In 2007, we were flying to a meet in Maryland and missed the connecting flight. We had to rent a couple vans to get everyone down there. We had intended on doing a shakeout swim when we arrived but because we drove, we didn't get in until after the meet pool had closed. Coach Scott had us do the shakeout in the hotel pool. The drive was a lot of fun and a great bonding experience with the team. (One of the attached images)

Q: What was the one event or stroke your dreaded swimming?

A: Breaststroke
