50 Years, 50 Titans : Lexi & Grace Fredricks

Tonawanda Titans

You’re not seeing double with this post, say hello to Lexi and Grace Fredricks!

These Grand Island girls always loved the water and after swimming for St. Stephen’s in 8th grade, they joined the Titans Swim Club to further pursue their swimming goals. That seemed to spark their capabilities in the pool because while they attended Mount Saint Mary Academy and swam on their team, they broke school records, won races, earned All-Catholic medals and championships. You can still see their All-Catholic achievement posters hanging throughout MSM’s sports hallway.

After high school graduation, both Lexi and Grace went on to attend Central Connecticut State University and completed 4 years of Division 1 swimming. Lexi now lives in Ashville, NC working as a probation/parole officer. Grace works part time at a group home affiliated with Child and Family Services and can be seen coaching for the Titans Stroke Development, Level 1 and Level 2 swimmers.

Fun Facts about Lexi:

Holds the record for the 100 Backstroke and 100 Butterfly at MSM!

Fun Facts about Grace:

Holds the record for the 100 Breaststroke at MSM!

Here’s our Q&A session with Lexi and Grace:

When did you first join Titans?

We began swimming for Titans at the end of 8th grade year at St. Stephens in 2012.

What is your favorite memory being part of the Titans team?

Lexi: My best memory of swimming with the Titans were the away meets. Whether it was taking GoPro pictures underwater or dancing to a song the whole team was listening to, it was always a fun time!

Grace: My favorite memories were not only the inside jokes during practices, fun and challenging sets, and lifts but also all of the events attended, and plans made outside of swimming at the Aquatic Center. I can genuinely say I have gained lifelong friends from the club, and I am incredibly blessed for the experience! One of the swimmers that Coach Tim asked to “make friends with my sister and I” is, to this day, one of my best friends.

What event did you dread swimming?

Lexi: I swam backstroke and butterfly in college and dreaded swimming breaststroke.

Grace: My most dreaded event was probably the 500; which is ironic because it ended up being one of my college events!
